Blacktop vs Asphalt

What is blacktop anyway, and is it any different from asphalt? Both asphalt and blacktop are made with the two primary ingredients of crushed stone and bitumen (a petroleum based material commonly used in roofing shingles). The difference is the quantity of each used in the mixing. Asphalt is used more often for high traffic roadways, frequently used by heavy trucks, and contains a higher percentage of bitumen. Blacktop is more commonly used for residential driveways, bike paths and small commercial projects. It contains a higher percentage of crushed stones. P&J Asphalt Paving specializes in sealing both blacktop and asphalt throughout the area. Call (609) 375-0623 for a great price to seal yours!

Benefits of Blacktop Sealcoating

Many residential customers ask us if concrete or blacktop is the better driveway surface. It often comes down to preference. Concrete as a material for driveways and walkways has its advantages. Although often more expensive, concrete can be more decorative, especially when stamped concrete is used to create interesting patterns. However, concrete cracks and chips and is not as easily repaired.

Blacktop is heated to a high temperature during the mixing stage, up to 300 degrees. It can withstand harsh temperatures and weather conditions, and it tends to be more durable than concrete. Although it also cracks and chips during harsh conditions, blacktop is also easy to maintain, because it can be repaired and resealed season after season at a fairly low cost. If you are considering refinishing your blacktop, call the pros at P&J Asphalt Paving at (609) 375-0623 for a free quote.
